I wouldn’t blindly buy into articles like “How This 20-Year-Old Solo Founder Built a $10M ARR Company Using an AI App Builder.”
- Just because AI makes it easier to build a product doesn’t mean everyone will build a great product. Anyone can make a song, but not everyone can create a hit song.
- The fact that anyone can now build a product means there are millions of new competitors.
- Even if you build something great, in many cases, you’ll still need to build a business and a company around it.
- If you’re considering this as a side project, does this fit your lifestyle? If you want to dedicate 40 hours a week to your side project, that means every evening (4 hours per weekday) + all your weekends (20 hours). No Netflix, no social gatherings, no family time. Can you sustain that lifestyle?
- Do you like working alone? Some of the biggest joys in work come from being part of a team, solving tough problems, and pulling off something impossible together.
Trust me — I’m just as excited about AI, vibe coding, and the democratization of product building as anyone else. I think Lovable is truly lovable, and Bolt is an exciting new bolt in your toolbox. These are amazing.
But don’t forget: you don’t have to do everything alone, solopreneurship isn’t the only way. I always like to encourage young grads to join an early-stage startup, be a sponge and learn everything, and build their network and product chops – and hopefully also get stock options and equity that could become the seed money for their next venture.
