A few interesting observations re: top iOS apps in the US
– 18 of 20 top grossing apps are gaming, entertainment, and dating apps (the only exceptions are Duolingo and LinkedIn). Smartphone = content entertainment device
– It’s 2024, and Candy Crush is still a top 10 app. Per a VentureBeat article, Candy Crush reached $20bn cumulative revenue in 2023 (power of IP!)
– 4 out of top 10 most downloaded apps are from international developers (#1, #3, #6 are from Chinese developers; #5 is from Scopely which is now Saudi-owned)
– Top grossing social network app in the US is not Facebook, not Telegram, not Discord; it’s Life360
